Kuantan is the capital city of Pahang state, located on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia with the administrative area of 2,453 square kilometres. Kuantan has a population of 558,551 with a 3.3% annual growth rate. In recent years, Kuantan has become one of the most growing cities in Malaysia and experiencing rapid changes in physical development. Its major economic activities are industry, trade, commerce and tourism. Kuantan is known for its beaches, waterfalls, ecotourism, heritage, culture, food and urban tourism. Kuantan City Council has a distinct leadership role as the city authority of Kuantan to ensure the city continuously develops, emphasizing on environment and sustainable development for the benefit of the present and future generation. The Council is granted city status on 21 February 2021. It is responsible for town planning and building control, public health and urban service, infrastructure and facilities maintenance, city landscape, community engagement, enforcement and licensing as well as business and tourism development.
