Opened in 1914, Mojiko Station (Moji Station at the time of opening) was the first station to be designated as a National Important Cultural Property in 1988. To cope with its aging and to strengthen its earthquake resistance, preservation and repair work began in 2012 and after about six years, it reopened in its original appearance in March 2019. The station building, a two-story building made of wood, is said to represent a "Gate" in its unique symmetrical structure, which falls under the neo-renaissance style. Currently, only two station buildings still in operation, Mojiko Station and Tokyo Station, are designated as important national cultural properties. There are also restaurants and cafes that have been added on to the station
